From Classmates to Soulmates: A Love Story Born at UTM-Universiti Teknologi Malaysia
What started as a simple classroom acquaintance between two Ugandan students thousands of miles away from home has blossomed into a moving love story of partnership, purpose, and possibility.
When Omalla Morgan Kadowa Thomas and Chanda Galabuzi enrolled in the Master of Science in Systems Engineering program at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), neither imagined they were stepping into a chapter that would change their lives forever. As the only Ugandan students on the Kuala Lumpur campus, the two naturally gravitated toward each other, sharing lecture notes, tackling assignments, and offering familiar companionship in a foreign land.
What began as shared academic goals soon grew into something much deeper. Their late-night study sessions became long conversations about home, dreams, and the future. Their teamwork in class slowly evolved into a bond built on trust, admiration, and unwavering support. In the quiet corners of the UTM library and the bustling energy of campus life, friendship turned into affection, and affection into love.
“Being so far from home, we found comfort in each other,” Chanda recalls. “We didn’t just share a class… we shared a journey.”
Today, that journey has led them to an unforgettable milestone. As they proudly walked across the graduation stage, the moment symbolised far more than academic achievement. For Thomas and Chanda, it marked the beginning of a shared life together, two engineers stepping into the world not just as professionals, but as partners in every sense.
“Our graduation marks the end of one chapter and the start of another exciting adventure,” Thomas reflects. “We hope our story inspires other students and couples to believe that with dedication, teamwork, and love, anything is possible.”
Looking ahead, the couple aspires to utilise their knowledge to make meaningful contributions to the field of engineering, supporting one another as they advance in their careers and in their marriage. Their hope is simple yet profound: to build a future founded on love, collaboration, and lasting impact.
From the lecture halls of UTM to the lifetime they now envision together, Thomas and Chanda’s story is a testament to the unexpected beauty of finding love where you least expect it and the power of two hearts moving forward as one.
