One of the most memorable moments of the graduation ceremony was the impactful speech delivered by the top-performing student from Uganda. Speaking with humility and gratitude, he reflected on his experience leaving Uganda to study in Malaysia:
“Two years ago, I left Uganda unsure of what awaited me. Everything was new, and I wondered: Did I make the right choice? Alhamdulillah, yes, I did.” Aksam Lwanga
He expressed deep appreciation for:
UTM Faculty and lecturers
His Malaysian friends and classmates
The Government of Uganda and the State House Engineering Team
His family back home
He highlighted the beauty of Malaysia’s multicultural harmony and the warmth of its people, humorously admitting:
“I think I ate more than I studied! The food, nasi lemak, roti canai, teh tarik, has changed my life!”
He ended with a powerful reminder:
“Our knowledge is a trust from Allah. We didn’t study only for jobs or money, but to help others and make the world better.”
His message resonated with the audience and served as a call to all graduates to utilise their skills with purpose, humility, and integrity.
