They are allowed to stay visa-free for up to 30 days.

However:

  • Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months beyond your planned stay,

  • You must complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) before arriving — this has been mandatory since Jan 2024 for most visitors.

What types of visas are available for Ugandans moving to Malaysia?

Common visa categories include:

  • Student Visa (Student Pass) – for those enrolled in Malaysian colleges or universities.

  • Employment Pass – for skilled professionals hired by Malaysian companies.

  • Dependent Pass – for spouses or children of individuals holding valid work or student permits.

  • Social Visit Visa – for short-term travel such as tourism, family visits, or short meetings.

Each visa type has its own requirements, processing time, and validity.

What is the cost of living like in Malaysia?

Malaysia offers a relatively affordable cost of living compared to many Asian and Western countries. While costs vary depending on location and lifestyle, here is a general guide:

  • Accommodation:

    • Shared room: Affordable

    • Studio/Single unit: Moderate

    • Larger apartments in big cities like Kuala Lumpur: Higher cost

  • Food:

    • Local Malaysian meals are inexpensive and widely available.

    • Imported goods, specialty foods, and international restaurants cost more.

  • Transportation:

    • Public transport (MRT, LRT, buses) is reliable and affordable.

  • Utilities & Internet:

    • Generally moderate and manageable.
